Hot Topics: A Roundtable Discussion for Admission Professionals
Join any one of four simultaneous sessions for a free–wheeling conversation on just about anything that you’ve wanted to discuss with your professional colleagues. Create your own agenda with your colleagues; as in previous years, a seasoned admission professional will convene the session and serve as moderator. Everything is potentially on the table, so learn from each other about great admission practices, dealing with parents, advising candidates, early decision and early action programs, what your colleagues are trying or wish they could try, budgeting, planning events, and more. Come ready to participate. This session is one of the highlights of the conference.

Life Hacks 101: Tech Tricks to Save Your Day
So much to do, so much technology, and so little time. You’ve got a phone that can take pictures and surf the Web, a laptop in your briefcase, and an overstuffed e–mail inbox. How do you manage information overload in the new age of multitasking? Tech author Gina Trapani shares some of the most useful ways to streamline your workday, get your information under control, and secure your data. Learn how to get what you need from the Web (or the secrets of Google’s advanced search), how to take your applications to go on a thumb drive, keyboard shortcuts for common computer tasks, useful cell phone tricks (how to look up flight status on the way to the airport), and–perhaps best of all–how to deal with e–mail overload.

Calming and Relaxing the Harried Admission Professional
Throughout the year, admission professionals face challenges to the mind and body—communicating difficult decisions to candidates; facing tough questions by deans, students, and staff; traveling throughout the country to recruitment fairs and always staying positive; and making it all work often within strict budgetary confines. While we love what we do, it can take a physical and mental toll. For the first time at an LSAC conference, admission professionals can take time out for themselves and take back to their offices some practical relaxation tips. The session leader is a yoga and meditation instructor who attended law school and practiced securities law, during which time she began her involvement with these calming techniques. This session will offer a brief introduction into the physiological and emotional benefits of yoga and meditation. But that’s not all ... this session will also demonstrate some practical techniques on how to do meditation and some physical poses to practice back in your own offices or on the road, when you really need to alleviate stress to be at your best.
